Winning at Blackjack: Keeping it Simple

If you have never played a card game before, the first one that most will recommend is Blackjack, and for good reasons. It is exciting, easy to learn and profitable. Before you get carried away, you should remember to keep things as straightforward as possible.

By straightforward it means sticking with the basic approach. Blackjack is an easy game to learn, and winning is possible by approaching it in a practical, uncomplicated manner.

The best way to start winning is to get the basic Blackjack strategy chart. Several years ago, computer programmers decided to run simulations on PCs that determined all the possible combinations in the game, and the odds of a player winning or losing.

The result is that there is now a chart which contains every possible hand you can get, and the statistical probabilities. This won't guarantee a win, but you'll know which is most statistically favorable for you.

You can download this from the Net, but obviously you can't carry this basic Blackjack strategy chart with you in the casino, because looking down at the chart every so often will incur the ire of the dealer and the other players on the table because the process is slowed down.

This isn't an issue in online Blackjack though, so if you have problems memorizing the chart, you should just play online. As you play on the Net you can look at the diagram as often as you like. Don't take too long though, because some online gambling sites may use timers.

Yet another basic Blackjack strategy, one often ignored by players, is that there are different rules in different casinos, which can either work in your favor or against it. The favorable rules include games with fewer decks, (four or less is ideal), a payout of 2 to 1 with a natural hand, and allowing you to double down with any cards.

Other favorable rules you should look for include being allowed to double down after a split, splitting with Aces and surrender (early or late).

Your Blackjack strategy would be adversely affected by the presence of one or more of these following rules: the dealer is allowed to stand with a soft 17, and wins on ties; eight deck games and being permitted to double down only with a 10 or an 11.

By using the basic charts, and availing of the best rules around, you can make your Blackjack game a whole lot easier and profitable. Keep these things in mind, and you'll earn more money while the others bust out.
